Some answers to questions lately

2006-08-31 19:17:36

Hi, I know others have asked lately about facial skin changes.
Since I am a most recently a Professional Beauty Consultant, I
thought I would give you some insight into what I have experienced
after gastric bypass surgery. I can tell you these dramatic facial
skin changes are very managable with the right product(s). My skin
changed from dry-combination skin to somewhat oily after surgery;
but only on my face and scalp. I adjusted the products I use and now
have my situation well under control. I'd be glad to help anyone
that needs some product ideas before going to a dermatologist.
Secondly, as a health professional for 30 years, I was familiar with
the gastric bypass patient's complaints about constipation. After
experiencing profound constipation on a personal level the first few
months after my Gastric Bypass, I asked my doctor to prescribe
Miralax. I found that "Miralax" worked well to get my body adjusted
to having more frequent BMs over a period of a few weeks.
Milk of Magnesia works well for those immediately post-op, and those
with occasional constipation. I continue to take "stool softener"
capsules everyday, and these do help, but if you are on narcotic
medications, as I am, you may need to resort to a laxitive. Another
product I have tried with success is Phillips' Soft Chews [they are
chocolate flavor and I've never had a problem with dumping on this
product; but those that are sensitive to dumping may wish to take
that into consideration before trying this product.]
Just some suggestions. Lynda

Miriam's Question about Sex

2006-08-31 12:59:30

Miriam, tell your husband he will be pleasantly surprised when you
are literally closer together. We are older [I'm 55, he's 67] and
sex with my husband is actually better now that I am not so fat;
kind of like when I met him [as long as he takes his blue pill!]

Try upping your protein to at least 70 gms per day and
also make sure that a lot of your liquids come from
water (at least 8 glasses a day) anything above that
crytal light, tea, whatever, is just the added extra.

Where do you get these coffee like protein drinks?

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] having kids

2006-08-30 19:55:31

It's Ayanna again. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has had
children after the operation. I am 23 years old and am about to graduate.
My doctor says I will be able to have kids no problem in the future but i would
like to speak to someone that has actually had a child. If u don't mind
sharing ur experience I would be truley grateful. Thanx in advance

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] I DONT KNOW HOW I AM GOING TO DO THIS

Hi Lauren. :) I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling to well.
To be very honest with you, I'd STOP eating the meat for now. I
had my surgery on 8-3-03 and couldn't tolerate meat (had the
symptoms you are describing) I can NOW eat a bit of meat here
and there. I eat a lot of cheese and beans of all kinds and
nuts and my protein shakes for my protein. Seriously consider
what I am saying, it's just like what I had to deal with and I
know it hurts and is NO FUN. I havn't had any problems at all
since I laid off the meat. I feel super!!! I am down 102 lbs.
now...it's unreal! :)
Email me anytime! :)

Houston: We have achieved Post-op status!

2006-08-30 02:28:34

Just a note to everyone that I was released from the hospital today
(5 days post op). I could not have thought things were going to go
so well.
No longer will I accept from a woman that "...you don't what giving
birth is like!" To which I will replay, "when was the last time you
had your stomach cut into 1/4th its size?" So for you women that
have done both, you're amazing!
Stay comfortable in the bed and sitting was a bit of a struggle but
I have made it home and am finding the same situation.
I went in a 418 and left at 405 lbs. Now it's amatter of getting the
meals timed. That's it for now.
Thanks for being here.

Hi Deb,
Good to hear from you. You are so right you did tell me that and I believe
it will happen. My doctor says I will still need it like shopping and having
to walk a lot, but for short distance I won't need. The only thing that I
still have to use it for in the house is in the kitchen. I can't stand up long
enough to cook a meal. My doctor says it is because the spinal fluid cannot get
to the lower spinal canal. But I am so much better and I think that I
will!!!! get out of it. I will let you know. You are a special caring lady.
Thanks
