Tanja,
Good luck and I am sure it will all work out. I too am doing all of
the fun stuff w/Tricare. We are active duty AF. I had my first
consultation w/the surgeon yesterday. I was so excited until I was
told that as of Feb. 1st Tricare will no longer cover lap gastric
bypass. They have declared it experimental and will only cover open
gastric bypass. The Dr. thought I was a perfect candidate for getting
it done lap but I guess I have no choice if I want it done. It seems
like there are a lot of different instructions to follow with each
base. Here my PCM put in for the referal.....I received it in the
mail a few weeks later. I called the surgeons office for an
appt.....which took 2 mo to get one. Now all I have to do is wait for
them to call me with a date. Which will be no earlier then June
sometime. Also I will have to pray for them to approve it. In the
office visit the psyc. person and nutritionist came into the room one
at a time and got all of that over with really quickly. Are you
getting it done at the Army hospital? If so that would be the big
difference......we have to go down town. Well anyway.....I guess I
did a little venting of my own....lol I wish you all the luck and
let keep me informed how things are progressing for you.

Help After Open

2007-01-29 22:10:27

Hi
I will be having an open because my doctor is 9 months booked up for Lap and
I didn't want to wait . My husband will be taking off time from work to help
me when I come home. My question is after I come home from the hospital how
long do you think I will need him to stay off work to help me? I will be staying
3 days in the hospital . I was guessing 3 days - would that be about right?

MedScape - Calcium

2007-01-29 03:00:46

<<Subject: Calcium citrate or carb.....
My surgeon told me i could take tums for my calcium...but isnt that
carb....not citrate??
I have heard soo much about us not being able to absorb calcium
carb...is
there a website or something about this?
The following are from MedScape . . . you must register to read MedScape, but
it's free. These are not the best studies, but I don't have much time to search
right now. Hope it helps . . .
Rachel
Calcium Citrate Shown to Have Superior Bioavailability and Protects Against Bone
Loss
New York (MedscapeWire) Nov 21 An important follow-up study that reaffirms
calcium citrate's superior bioavailability when compared with calcium carbonate
also provides new evidence of calcium citrate's role in protecting against bone
loss.
The study, published in the November issue of the Journal of Clinical
Pharmacology, used 3 measures to determine calcium bioavailability serum
calcium, urinary calcium, and serum parathyroid hormone (PTH). This randomized
crossover study compared the single-dose bioavailability and effects on PTH of
commercial calcium citrate 250 mg (Citracal, Mission Pharmacal) and calcium
carbonate 500 mg (Os-Cal, SmithKline Beecham) supplements in postmenopausal
women.
*******************************************************************
"The initial study we conducted in 1999 showed that calcium citrate is more
readily available to the body than calcium carbonate," explained study author
Howard J. Heller, MD, assistant professor at the Center for Mineral Metabolism
and Clinical Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in
Dallas. "We expanded the trial and our measurement methods to determine if one
form of these commercially available calcium supplements was a better choice in
postmenopausal women. We found that the tablet formulation of calcium citrate in
the form of Citracal was more bioavailable than calcium carbonate, even when
given with a meal. Several studies have established that calcium citrate is more
bioavailable than calcium carbonate when the subject is fasting; however, some
authors have previously suggested that the two forms of calcium are equally
bioavailable when given with a meal.
"Moreover," Dr. Heller continued, "calcium citrate produced greater suppression
of serum PTH by more than 50% over calcium carbonate. This provides
physiological evidence that calcium citrate was better absorbed. We additionally
found that calcium citrate may be particularly advantageous in those who absorb
calcium poorly from calcium carbonate."
********************************************************************************\
*******
Parathyroid suppression is critical in maintaining bone because PTH is
responsible for age-related bone loss. When the body senses a deficit in
calcium, it responds to the challenge by increasing PTH levels and leaching
calcium from the bones.
In another study from Mayo clinic, researchers found that calcium citrate
supplementation effectively lowered serum PTH values to those found in
premenopausal women, ultimately protecting them against bone loss.
Dr. Heller and his colleagues compared the calcium absorption of calcium citrate
350 mg (Citracal) and calcium carbonate 500 mg (Os-Cal) after a single oral load
(500 mg calcium), taken with a meal, by calculating the peak and cumulative
change in serum calcium from baseline, offering a direct measure of calcium
bioavailability. Similarly, the curve of decline in serum PTH from baseline over
time was used to assess the ability of calcium supplements to suppress
parathyroid function. To adjust for daily biological variation and the effect of
the meal alone, the value from the placebo phase was subtracted from the
corresponding value for calcium citrate and calcium carbonate, allowing their
actions to be compared independent of these variables.
Research participants were involved in 3 phases of randomized study. For 1 week
prior to each phase, their diets contained an average amount of calcium (400
mg/day), were restricted in sodium (100 meq/day), and caffeine was not allowed.
The purpose of these standardized diets was to reduce the influence of the diet
on response. In 1 phase, subjects ingested a single dose, 500 mg calcium
citrate. In another phase, research participants took a single dose of calcium
carbonate. In the third phase, 2 placebo tablets were taken. In all phases,
subjects were given the calcium supplement or placebo at the same time each
morning with a standard breakfast in the clinical research setting. The
participant's blood was drawn at baseline and obtained every hour for 6 hours
tooo obtain a calcium bioavailability profile. Fasting and post-load urine
samples were also collected.
This study was conducted as a follow-up to a previous study by Dr. Heller,
published in the November 1999 issue of the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology,
which was the first direct comparison of commercially available calcium
supplements. In that study, it was proven that the calcium supplement
formulation calcium citrate was 2.5 times more bioavailable than calcium
carbonate, even when given with a meal, the optimum method of ensuring calcium
carbonate absorption.
"It is very important for postmenopausal women to have sufficient intake of
calcium (1200 to 1500 mg/day) and vitamin D (600 to 800 IU/day) in combination
with a healthy, well-balanced diet and regular weight-bearing exercise," noted
Dr. Heller. "However, since a serving of dairy only provides about 300 mg of
calcium and up to 100 IU of vitamin D, most women are unable to achieve proper
calcium and vitamin D intake via the diet alone. Our data suggests that there is
an important difference in bioavailability between calcium supplements in
postmenopausal women. Careful long-term studies should be done to determine if
there is an equal difference in protection against bone loss and fracture."

biliary colic and hair loss, and its been a while

2007-01-28 19:59:01

Hi All,
It's been a while since I've logged on here, life has been way
hectic. I had my surgery 02-12-03, it's almost been a year. I can't
quite believe that. I was 360 and am now 220 lbs. (140 lost) I went
into the ER last night with my second bout of biliary colic. Last
time I was discharged with vicodin, this time ibuprofen. Just
wondering if anyone else out there is suffering from the same
problem or is someone knows of a preventative. I'm not really
interested in having my gallbladder taken out at this point. I'm
told to stay away from fatty foods at the ER, the ironic thing is I
do avoid fatty foods as per the diet regimine of GB patients. They
actually discharged me with instructions to eat only fat-free
crackers and egg whites last night. I questioned that and was met
with rude treatment. I explained the necessity of protein in my diet
and was told to follow the discharge regardless of my GB dietary
needs. Needless to say I left frustrated and a little scared. I was
not able to say too much as they administered morphine while I was
there. So, that's one issue. On to no. 2.
A secondary problem I've encountered is my constant hair loss. I've
kept up on my protein, have been taking Biotin, a supplement, and
have been using Nioxin, a shampoo/conditioner/treatment to aid in
hair regrowth. But, I still seem to have too much hair coming out.
Is there anything else I can do???
My other largest complaint is the lack of desire to eat. Often times
I get sick from looking at food and am forced to eat it anyways. I
work out five times a week, two hours a day, and I know even without
counting my workout, I'm not hittin my caloric needs for the day.
I've tried just about everthing out there when it comes to forms of
protein. I think because of this lack of calories I've plateaued and
am currently trying to find a way through this.
In the end, it is a lot of work, but it is totally worth it. If I
hadn't done any of this I would be over 400lbs by now and getting
fatter each day.
So if there is help or suggestion to be had by any of you please
feel free to enlighten me.
Thanks in advance,
Marla

Re: To hair or hair not???...

2007-01-27 22:05:50

Andrea, I was all about my hair too. Well, at 300+ lbs it was just about the
only good looking thing I had left! I worried about it when I was researching
too, but in the end, it came down to my health. I figured I'd much rather have
good overall health than just healthy hair. I'm about 6 months post-op, and I
seem to be losing a lot of hair. Well, it looks like a lot to me, but my
husband says I always lost that much. He ought to know because he always has to
clean it off the drain cover (I'm too lazy, and always too late!)! I wear my
hair short and sassy now, which I think helps the appearance. I think most
people would not notice the thinning, but I know. I've always had a ton of
hair, so it bugs me a little. BUT- people notice ME now, not just my hair, and
it feels great! Not to worry...if it's going to happen, it's going to happen.
Like most things with WLS, it too will pass. Sending good hair vibes your way!

Hello Everyone,
Well my Dr's nurse is sending me out Diagnostic forms today. So that
way I can start on all of my testing. She says I will have to get
three x-rays done, a breathing test, a EKG, and a Upper GI. Do any of
these things hurt, other than the X-rays. I am totally going in to
all of this testing stuff blind. And would love any kind of feed
back. I also have to go in and do my psych test soon. She says its
like over 500 true and False questions! I am going to be there for
awhile. She is also already getting my approval from Tricare. For
those of you who use Tricare, are they pretty easy..I mean do they
pretty much approve of your surgery?

HI BOB:ummm have you tried carnation instant breakfast. It is not hi in protein

as long as there is no sugar added its ok.They have different flavors and i dont
think they taste bad at all. You should try them and let me know........AMY
An Astoundingly Ordinary One <deppitybob@...
me today while I was making myself yet another yummy
protein drink with "flavorless" protein. I'm not that thrilled with the flavor
or aftertaste
of it, but it's 17g of protein in one scoop, so I like it. What I do, though, is
put a
packet of Splenda in it and a couple of drops of vanilla extract, and voila, I
have a
protein drink that actually tastes better than this vanilla protein drink I have
been
using. So I started thinking: why not combine unflavored protein with sugar-free
Torani or DaVinci syrups?
Wouldn't that be good if it worked? Instead of having to deal with the usual
chocolate/vanilla/fruit flavors, imagine having a hazelnut drink. Or macadamia.
Or
coconut. Or cola. Or butter rum! They have a bezillion flavors--shouldn't some
of
them work with unflavored protein? Let me know your opinion! I'm going to try
it!

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] changing sizes

2007-01-25 05:15:26

That's funny, I have a close friend who told me one day that I looked like a bad
lady cause my jeans were too baggy. Back in 97 I was wearing a size 8 and now I
wear size 18 and I'm 5'1 and that's stretching it. I can't wait till the time
comes when u start seeing it come off and getting smaller sizes every month.
But thanks to the long waiting list for this surgery no telling when they will
schedule me for it. I never realized that there were that many folks in the
world that was having this surgery. I never thot I would but when I started
researching it and saw that in 90% of the cases can go off their blood pressure
pills and also in time coming off your diabetes that's what got me excited about
having the surgery. Then there's the plus that u can also get rid of those
pounds and can buy your clothes off the rack and u will have so much more
energy. How many times do u see the surgeon after the surgery?
Be on the lookout for those bargains and hey Victorious secret here I come lol.

Candi Read <candiread@...
OH and girlfriend you WILL need new clothes!!!!!! You will WANT them even
worse. I have never been big into buying clothes. Well at least since I
stopped working outside of the home. I didn't even buy much after surgery
at first until I could just no longer wear anything and people were starting
to make comments that I needed to buy something.
I bought some new jeans at a thrift store and I haven't stopped shopping
since. Of course I am kinda cheap and hate to waste money so I buy alot on
clearance racks. But I also buy clothes that are my goal size and man I
think I have a half of a closet filled already!!!!

MEGAN: Try to look for hidden (and those a little more obvious) carbs and
eliminate them. Replace them with protein. When you are closer to goal you
can probably slowly begin adding carbs back.
BECCA: Do you know what problems are interferring with your sleep? Is it
pain? A lot of people sleep in a recliner for a while so as not to lay flat.
Worth a try?
SOUTHERNANGELSPC: I have seen my surgeon on each and every visit. He takes
the time to answer questions and ask a few of his ownl He is VERY
interested and very hands on with each of his patients. If I were in your
shoes, I would be a little more demanding. This is important and something
all pre-ops should ask about before settling on a surgeon.
lallshouse: By liquid diet I am assuming you mean FULL liquids. To
Candi's list, add cream soups, higher the protein the better. My fav was
cream of chicken. I also liked pureed bean soup and found it to be very
filling. The eating plan given to me (and whoever said there are as many of
those as members on this list) was for 3 small meals a day from the list
plus a snack of a protein shake between each meal, beginning with 1/2 cup
each for a week to 3/4 cup between meals the next week to 1 cup. My fav is
Atkins in the cans.... Convenient, and best tasting to my buds as well as
best ratio of protein (20 gms) to sugars (1 gm) per 11 oz can.
Pain varies from person to person and is something she should discuss with
her surgeon. He needs to know and can either make suggestions or calm her
fears.
I was making hallway treks as often as possible in the hospital and 4 days
post op at home was walking a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening.
Again, she should check with her surgeon as to when to swim, workout, etc
because again everyone here has been told something different. My surgeon
insists on only walking for first 6 weeks while the organs inside heal, then
gradually begin resistance exercises. I forget how long before swimming
because it was too cold anyways.
Your friend should make a list of questions and bring an extra copy so both
of them can cover the list together. This way he can combine like concerns
with same answer.

Megan/Rose's carbs

2007-01-24 09:09:03

Megan/Rose -
What do you want us to call ya, woman? Did I get this wrong, or do you have 2
names? :o)
I don't think 33 lbs in 10 weeks is bad, but I think you could bump it up, by .
. .
1. Dropping the milk, juices - both are very high in sugars, no real food
value.
2. Adding protein shakes - very low to no sugar ones, available at
Vitalady.com.
3. Cutting your simple carbs intake. Try taking your egg and chicken salad on
a lettuce leaf, or celery stix, or cucumber slices, instead. I eat the topping
from a slice of pizz, but rarely eat any crust. Add some veggies, in place of
the simple carbs.
Simple carbs - sugars (even from milk, fruit & juice) will make you hungrier in
a couple of hours. They will make you crave later. It takes a couple of days
(usually 3) to detox, and get past the cravings, but then you'll be much better
off.
Protein shakes will provide instantly available fuel for your body to burn fat,
and to build muscle. I do 6/day, but recommend that proximals and medials do
3-4/day. Make them so that you get 30 grams of protein (not powder) per shake.
Good luck - I think you'll be happier, healthier with the above plan . . . :o)

I have some questions about leading up to the surgery. What all do they require
u to do pre-op, like what tests and how many different folks u have to see
before they are ready to schedule the surgery and once the surgery is approved
how long it is before they set u up for your surgery. I don't even have an
appt till June, and I'm not good on patience so I hope the time flys by. May
God bless each one of u that are having your surgery done this coming week, that
all turns out well for u.

What you should only get is diet jello, broth, and most of all drink
your bottle water. That is what you will be on for 3 wks but also do
it with your dr's suggestion. Every hospital is different. Hope this
helps..

Re: I'm Sick! Can I take Tylenol Cold & Flu?

2007-01-23 07:28:02

How far post-op are you?
I was able to take Da-quil and Ny-quil when I got sick at about 8
weeks postop. Just sip slowly as these may contain sugar and
alcohol. I took 1/2 dose, waited about 3 minutes then took the
rest. I think Tylenol cold meds would be OK too. I ended up with
bronchitis, so see your doc early for the deep cough.
Feel better!

I agree with you, that it does suck to have any complications, but
thank goodness it is minor. If worse comes to worse and you have to
go into the hospital, you may have to take a cab. (I had to with the
birth of my first child!)

And within one week after taking the drain out, I was able to slowly

more like on one side of your stomach...I too am a stomach sleeper, but
find that is changing as I lose weight as well. Don't give up

protein question for post ops...Thyroid question also!

2007-01-20 02:03:07

For those of you who say you drink 6/8 protein drinks a day.First of all When
did you have surgery and how much weight have you lost (Just curious if the
added protein is helping from others i have talked to...even though I know
everyone is different) second Do you mean scoops or actual drinks? because I
mix
mine 2 scoops at a time (35 grams of protein) and drink 2a day Which is 70
grams of protein. Plus what I eat in foods! I am required to get 80 by my
surgeon. If its a day where I can not eat as much I do 2 1/2 of these
shakes..which
is equal 5 scoops of protein powder (87.5 grams of protein)...Should I increase
this? The weight loss has slowed down A LOT. I am 3 months out and I am
loosing on average 3 pounds a week right now.
Also, Anyone know if i had to take thyroid meds before surgery and have not
been put back on them yet if that would slow the weight loss down? I am waiting
on a call back from my surgeon. That was one of the questions I had yesterday
but the teeny bopper didnt know the answer to that one either!!
Thanks...You guys are the best!!

My insurance paid soley based on my weight also. I am perfectly healthy

approved. I think it is sad how many people can get denied and have alot worse
things than myself. There should be something that can be done---CIndy

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] gas in stomach

Try some milk of magnesia for the constipation. The gas is not something
that is really able to be helped. It's pretty normal following this
surgery. You could try GasX or Beano...it might help but it's doubtful.

Response from my Dietician (Fluffylady9)

2007-01-18 21:04:06

Sent this yesterday and had absolutely no responses, so trying again today.
Both these topics have come up so I thought I would get a professional input.
Hope it helps eliminate some of your confusion
Marion,
Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday. You certainly are working hard
and have some good questions. We can discuss some of these issues at the
support group.
Gastric patients really need to focus on protein, since many have a hard
time meeting their protein needs, about 60-85 grams per day. It looks like your
shake has about 76 grams of protein and twice that seems pretty high and hard on
your kidneys. How many calories does it have? I'm convinced that assuming you
are getting adequate protein, its calories that determine whether you gain or
lose weight, though plateaus do occur. Since I focus on calories, counting
carbs is irrelevant. Sugar alcohol is a sugar that is not absorbed, so you
don't have to count it. Because it is not absorbed, larger quantities it may
result in some gas or diarrhea. We can talk about this at the support group.
See you then. Tricia

Base shake and Syrups

2007-01-18 18:44:15

Since I find most of the flavored protein a little too sweet, I couldn't stand
the syrups in flavored proteins. So I make a "base shake" with 1/2 scoop of
vanilla (adds creaminess, vanilla), and one scoop of SciFit Plain. TO this I
add syrups . . . drank a lot of eggnog (eggnog syrup, brandy extract, nutmeg)
this holiday season. I love Toasted Hazelnut, Brandied English Toffee, Spiced
Chai . . .
It works well for me . . .
Rachel
Subject: A Protein Idea...let me know what you think!
Something occurred to me today while I was making myself yet another
yummy
protein drink with "flavorless" protein. I'm not that thrilled with the
flavor or aftertaste
of it, but it's 17g of protein in one scoop, so I like it. What I do,
though, is put a
packet of Splenda in it and a couple of drops of vanilla extract, and
voila, I have a
protein drink that actually tastes better than this vanilla protein
drink I have been
using. So I started thinking: why not combine unflavored protein with
sugar-free
Torani or DaVinci syrups?
Wouldn't that be good if it worked? Instead of having to deal with the
usual
chocolate/vanilla/fruit flavors, imagine having a hazelnut drink. Or
macadamia. Or
coconut. Or cola. Or butter rum! They have a bezillion
flavors--shouldn't some of
them work with unflavored protein? Let me know your opinion! I'm going
to try it!

Re: gas in stomach

2007-01-18 09:56:15

Keep pushing the liquids and walk, walk, walk... It helps. Remember
there's not much going into your body. My doctor told me I won't go
every day. I'm a week out now and went about 2 days without going.
For later on I was told no Milk of Mag. or similar products. Instead
to take colace or senokot. These are stool softeners vs. laxative
(Milk of Mag).

cause me to gain, so I'll be very unhealthy by then. So it's up to
Medicaid, but like I said....nothing. Any help out there??

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Back from Doctor

2007-01-16 21:10:57

Andrea, as soon as I saw your words about dizzy and peeing, it clicked. If
I remember right, there were 11 symptoms of Diabetes, and I had either 9 or
10. I certainly hope it isn't the case for you, but you'll know soon from
the blood work. If it is, it's certainly helpful with that diagnosis to get
the surgery.
I would certainly think even though your doctor doesn't know any of the
surgeons that take your insurance, they exist. And in all probability he
has a list of them. For insurance to cover, generally you need a referral
from your pcp. Maybe a talk to your doctor about referring you. If nothing
else, he should be able to give you a list that you can research. I've
never had to find a referral doctor myself, and never had to contact my
insurance either. But if the doctor won't help you, that's another avenue.
By taking your particular insurance, your doctor is accepting their "list of
referral doctors" and should indeed have a list.

I wish I could get sick!

2007-01-16 04:02:58

Hey guys,
I am 8 months post op and have discovered that I can eat
ANYTHING! The last couple of days my body has seriously been craving
food! I have had my share of ups and downs when it comes to control
with food...but these last couple of days has just been KILLER! Even
though in comparison to pre surgery I am not eating nearly as much as
I was, I still hate that feeling of being out of control. It scares
me to think that I may be returning to my old habits....sure, today I
binged on a snack pack of doritos...but 2 years from now who's to say
it won't be an entire bag! And the sucky thing is...I don't get sick!
I can have a HUGE amount of carbs (what would be considered huge
after surgery)and it doesn't seem to bother me one bit! I think this
scares me more than anything. I work out like a maniac 6 days a week
so I think that is what has kept me on the losing side this whole
time. But I still hate being a slave to my cravings. I know cutting
out sugar can "detox" me, but I do that and for no rhyme or reason I
have strong cravings again!!!!!! Anyone else experience this? And if
so, how do you deal?
Thanks!

Medication answer for those who are allergic to codine

2007-01-14 08:13:16

In the hospital I started to use Avinza; a new long acting morphine
[micro beads inside capsules.] I cannot tolerate Demerol, Vivodin,
codine, and others due to adverse effects. Even the morphine they
gave me IV affected me by giving me the worst headaches that were
more acute than the surgical pain. Until the head Pharmacist came to
consult, I had had to discontinue utilizing any pain medications for
the first three days in ICU [on a ventilator 2 days]; I was in ICU 4
out of the 5 days I was in the hospital post-op [I had a gastrectomy
in addition to the Roux-en-Y.]
I continue to take Avinza 15mg twice a day for the pain of arthritis
and degenerative disc disease. It has made a vast difference in the
level of pain I experience everyday, and I do not notice any
cognitive difficulties...that is, although I am on pain medication,
I am totally alert and non-drowsy, and my motor skills are not
affected adversly.
After surgery I was still sore when I moved around in bed, but the
medication took away the surgical pain.
What I did post-op is open the capsule and sprinkle the micro beads
over a spoon full of applesause; then I swallowed the applesause and
capsule contents. This worked very well and was easy to get down.

loss. Now it's just at a normal type of falling out that I notice when
brushing my hair. I've recently noticed that there is so much new
growth, I can see it sticking up, out and all around after I blow dry.
The coolest thing is..... VOLUME!!! Even without using any 'product',
the new growth that varies from 1/2" to 2" adds volume to my hairstyle.
This is important to me as my hair wasn't the thickest to begin with,
but now my ponytail is as round as a dime, but when I let it down, the
LIFT I get really looks great!!! It looks full, pretty and with my long
thin hair, this is important.
I hope this gives some ladies the encouragement they need that this
hairloss process does pass and that you can turn this into a positive
situation.
I love my fake 'big hair'!!!!

A young wife sat on a porch in Waycross, Georgia on a summer day, drinking iced

gotten married? Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a married woman,
for goodness sake, a grown-up, not a young girl who needs girlfriends! Surely my

Welcome to the group! I am sorry your having trouble getting all
that mess straight, I sarted seeing doubles trying to read all you
were going through. I am having signs of diabetes, but not sure. I
get dizzy after every time I eat, especially if I have skipped a
meal. But can you get dizzy and eat to make it go away? I had to eat
a piece of bread this morning cause I just got so dizzy and got a
headache! Anyhoot, I haven't been checked for diabetes went to the
doctor yesterday if they say nothing about it when they call
tomorrow with my thyroid results I am going to mention it. Unless my
symptoms get worse. I been having a time with my insurance too. Hell
I was told I wasn't enrolled with mine but they paid for my doctor
visit yesterday LMAO! I have put on 20 pds in less than 2 months,
could that be diabetes?? I was 220 beginning of christmas just found
out I am 241. I about cried! THat sux! I wanna do something before I
hit 300. I only eat like one time a day, but lately been having to
eat a little something here and there to keep from getting dizzy.
And headaches, o lord! I'm not being twice an hour like I was
yesterday though. Less frequent. I was at the doctors office
yesterday 3 hours and peed 6 times. LOL I was getting aggravated!
Whats your weight and height. And your goal. I am 5 ft 2, you know
my weight, and my goal is 130 pds. I have been trying to convince my
husband to like skinny women cause before I die I will be skinny
DAMMIT and he loves BBW!! LOL
Well goodluck on getting your insurance straight and all. Will be
nice chatting with you.

Hi, My name is Janet, and I haven't had the surgery yet, but my MD
told me there was a 10 lb. limit on lifting, with a lap. I told him,
my purse weighs more than that!
Due the nature of my job, I will have to be out the entire 6 weeks
of healing time to avoid getting a hernia. I was also told I will get
60% of full time salary through disability benefits.
I do not have "small" children; mine are 7 and 9. I am surprised to
see how many people are from Florida, even many are from Miami. I am
in Miami, and work at Baptist, where a few of you have had the
surgery. I am going out of town, and I do not want my co-workers
treating me post-op. I saw one lady who had hers done at Kendall
Regional (no further comment). It is wonderful to see so many people
that are living around me that have had it done!

330 and hopefully would get approved by medicaid. The one thing i am

that i need to take care of and i was wondering if i would be able to
take care of him postup. if anyone could answer my question i would
be grateful thank you AMY.

Huh? Cooking or housework?

2007-01-12 03:04:37

Hannah, I'm ready for your suggestion, zucchini, bell peppers, onions,
garlic & topped w/cheese. My mouth is watering! I didn't pre-cook the
zucchini, as the lasagna cooks for an hour. I just sliced very thinly
longways. Some of the thicker pieces were crunchier, but I still loved it.
I have got to go to Trader Joe's. My mom's been recommending it for years,
and I've never stopped. For now, the zucchini lasagna was as creative as I
get, but I may get some diet cookbooks out and see what I can find.

Let us know what your dr tells u about your thyroid, I'm on thyroid meds too and
wondered if we lose the weight will this throw our thyroid readings will go back
to normal after we have lost part of our weight. I would think that u would
have to stay on the meds for awhile after surgery till your system gets use to
the weight loss, but I am curious to hear what he tells u.

mix
mine 2 scoops at a time (35 grams of protein) and drink 2a day Which is 70
grams of protein.

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] mestrual problems

2007-01-11 09:06:38

Well, I have cramping, not as much as pre-op. And I had my period last
week, but started to spot and passed a clot....and the thought did cross
my mind that "God, I hope this is not the thing to come"....I did note
that my cramps are not as bad...there was a time when I would cramp so
bad I would have to take 10 Extra Strength Tylenol and go to bed with a
heating pad, which resulted in blisters at times....thank God that part
of my life is over! The doctor indicated that previously when I had
cramps that I had them so strong due to my weight and the extra estrogen
I was generating. So, when we start to lose weight our bodies take some
time to get use to the change in our estrogen level.
Hope this helps...I seem to be rambling...

2007-01-11 01:26:00

Hi RaeShel
I am having the exact same issues. I had surgery just less than a month
before you and I can eat anything now. Nothing makes me dump or vomit. Steak
is
the ONLY thing that doesnt set well, so I just dont eat it. Sugar, bring it
on. Fats, fried foods, lactose, carbs, breads, rice....all these things that
other post ops cant tolerate are no problem for my tummy. Also I can eat much
larger amounts than I had anticipated. Its worrisome, but thus far I am still
losing. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. As for me, I am
exercising hard and just joined weight watchers again last night. I dont plan
on
following the WW plan exactly, but I love having the accountability and
support (my surgery took place two hours from my home and there are no in person
RNY
support groups around here).

2007-01-10 23:07:42

Hi Becky, I never dreamed it would take this long, I've never been big on
patience lol, I hope my insurance doesn't deny me, if the dr has on his charts
morbid obese then that sounds like I need the surgery. I always hated them
putting that in my chart but if it gets me approval with the Insurance it will
be worth the embarassment. My granddaughter won't know what to think when she
sees me with my weight off, I remember a couple of yrs ago she said "naynay will

Nice to read your post tonight. You asked about a long waiting list for this
type of surgery. In the area I'm from, it seems to depend on the surgeon.
Mine is Dr. Juarez and he is booked about 5 or 6 months ahead it seems. I
got a surgery date in Sept and am having surgery on the 19th of Feb, so about 5
months. I first began looking into this whole process in January 2003, so
the wait time from beginning to end will have been about 13 monhts. That
included a denial from the insurance, and an appeal process. Good luck to
you.....keep us posted! :)

Hey I am Candi too!!!!!! Now I know why I kept reading messages that were
addressed to me that didn't make sense!!!!!
I guess we will have to use out last initial!! :o)
My hubby waffled as well. Mostly because he was scared something might go
wrong. Which is very reasonable. He never told me not to do it. But he
did say make sure you are doing it for you and not for me. He really didn't
seem to care if I lost weight or not. But he did want me to be healthy. So
try talking to your hubby from that perspective.
I would never have done the surgery for just the cosmetic benefit of losing
the weight. But the health reasons...I no longer have High Blood Pressure,
arthritis, my glucose levels are finally returning to normal (I am averaging
115 now.....no insulin for the past month), I sleep well for the first time
in years, I can run up my stair without feeling like I am going to
die...Hell I can even stand up from the floor without the aide of chair or
table.
Keep your chin up and get hubby motivated to be your partner in creating a
healthy life for your whole family!!!

been 2 yrs for I missed my appt for this yr. What I was doing was downsizing on
drs, I felt I had too many, I don't think there would be a problem with it
except that I hardly ever use the c-pap machine it and sleep don't seem to go
together for me. I don't understand why they don't let u go ahead and see all
of these folks before u see the dr. I don't know what they will do because I
would have to find someone local for all this for we live about 3hrs from the
surgeons office. How long after u did all this did they set up your surgery? I
have never been patient, it's one of my failings but guess I will have to in
this case. It's just I have myself built up for

Hi Sharon,
We live in nw AL near the Tenn and Miss. line. We don't see much snow around
here last yr we had a dusting we get a lot of ice around here. It's just
spitten snow, that's what my mil use to tell my kids but they are calling for
1-2 inches after mn. We lived in GA at one time but it was close to the Tenn
line, just outside of Chattanooga. I'm originally from Ohio but met my hubby in
college there in Chattanooga so have never left the South except to visit of
course. My granddaughter just called me a little earlier to tell me it was
snowing at her house, she hasn't seen much snow, so she was excited. Her daddy
called me next he had been out of town on a job and they couldn't get back home
had to pull into a motel for the nite, but he said there was a 14 car pile up
not far from where they had come thru earlier, he said I'm carrying a million
dollars worth of tools and have other men's lives to consider too , I'm glad
they pulled off, he was about 2hrs from home. He was wanting
to get home and take his wife out for not only Valentine's day but it's also
her b/day. They live in ARK. Have u had the surgery yet? I'm pre-op won't
even get in to see the dr till June and it's killing me this waiting. Looks
like they would see u first to see if u even qualifiy. I'm afraid I might get
my hopes up and then they won't do it. Well better close for now hope u have a
