The Lap Question

2008-07-30 21:33:59

When I refered to lap surgery I meant lapriscopic gastric bypass.
Good luck sunflower on yours in June. Best Wishes,

Re: DOCTOR REFUSA;

I dont think her problem is finding a wls surgeon. I believe the problem is
finding a primary care/family doctor that will provide the referral to a wls
surgeon.

2008-07-29 11:54:36

Hi Bethany,
Congratulations!!!! Where in ohio are you, if you don't mind me asking? I
had my open RNY at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio on April 23,
2004. So I was 6 weeks post-op yesterday.
Your question about the gas made me laugh. Sorry hun, it's just that I've
been experiencing so much gas it's embarrasinng. Thought I was going to
blow-up. I had just checked with my nurse the other day and she said it was
very
normal for gastric bypass patients to have a lot of gas and it was okay to take
such things as Gas-X, Beeno, Phayzame. So I'm getting used to Gas-X and
actually it's starting to get better. I would eat tomato soup and cream of
chicken
soup mostly when I was on full liquids.
Your other question isn't anything many of us haven't thought about but
didn't ask...lol. Before surgery I didn't even care about intimacy but now that
I'm out and the incision is healed, 25# lighter and feeling so much better look
out...lol. Let's just say I'm looking forward to getting back to that part of
my life.
Well again, congratulations on your surgery and I hope you have a great
report at your follow-up appointment. Take care and welcome to the losing side.

2008-07-28 03:07:39

Good Morning Everyone, ( PLEASE READ ALL)
I am a member of this group and waiting for surgery. I just found out that my
insurance company APPROVED me for surgery. YEA!!!!!! I am waiting to hear
Monday from Pacific Bariatric for a surgery date (finally)... I am so
Excited!!!! Thank you for all of your support....Without you I don't believe
that I would have been able to maintain with all that is going on in my life

spending all the money I had (his kids told me he was marring me for my money
but I didn't believe them at the time). In the mean time I need to pay my bills

bought him. Ha Ha HA I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!! (trying to maintain a sense of
humor here)
I am a registered travel agent and have been able to acquire several incredible
deals through the airlines to Hawaii and several other great spots for a third
of the cost. Please see below. I know most of you know me as I post here all
the time. This is not a trick nor gimmick. Because of the business that I have
done in the past the airline and hotels give me great deals. Most agents use
these to give to their family members but I am selling them to survive and
with your help start a new life with this surgery and without the %&_(%*(*#%
that I have as a husband.
I know that for may years most of us would never put a bating suit on nor enjoy
our vacation (if we took one) because of our weight. Well those of us who are
waiting and those of you that are on the losing side of the process need to
be rewarded. I plan to do just that!!! so I thought that this would be of some
interest to those here in this group. This would be a great GIFT or Goal in our
struggle!!!!!
I can help anyone who would like to have a vacation and still have cash left
over to pay the high gas prices. LOL... I can help anyone who needs any type of
travel at all and will give everyone here who tells me that are part of this
support group a great discount. NETWORKING and Support IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] WLS for young adults?

2008-07-27 21:12:32

Hi Bill,
I had my surgery a couple days after my 28th Birthday. Still young! : )
It's by far the best thing I could have done for myself. Definitely scary
going in to it. Now I have found my New Normal lifestyle and I am enjoying
seeing less of myself daily. So far, I can fit in booths when we go out to
eat, Movie seats are comfortable (Sorta except my butt gets sore from
sitting after awhile), Life is becoming easier to live. REALLY LIVE! I
went to a carnival with my Nephew and we went on a couple rides together.
It was so nice not having to worry about if the safety devices would fit on
me. Back seat-seat belts fit now! There are so many things that have
changed for the better since the surgery. For me the best thing so far is
seeing the look on my Husband's face when he sees me walking out of my
office, in a store, or wherever we are. He is always doing double takes.
It's very fun to be the girl that turns his head. So, I am not real sure
what information you are looking for, but I hope this helped. Please feel
free to ask specific questions, I'd be happy to answer.
Blessings, and good luck on the quest for weight loss.

RE: For GPH34 protein intake

2008-07-27 14:25:02

You just recently had your surgery less then 3 weeks ago. Right now,
you cannot even think about getting even half of that protien each day.
Trust me when I tell you, just let your body recover from surgery, SIP
the water or crystal light, kool-ade with splenda or whatever your
'drink' is. Get used to sipping and handling the fluids and what not.
It was 2 weeks until I could actually handle drinking maybe 32 oz. for
the day. That included the soup and jello and all the other liquids.
Since you can't manage more then 2 oz at a time, why push it. Just
recover for a few weeks.
AFter about 6 weeks, you'll still be juggling all the liquid
requirements along with any food choices you are allowed. Again, take
it slow. By 4-5 month's you may be lucky to eat your way to 50 grams of
protein but I really doubt it. What I did manage to do is to get 1-2
protien shakes in during the day which gave me another 20-45 grams of
protein. I never worried about 'how much', but focused on healing,
sipping to get my hydration and then managing my food protien. I had a
shake most days cus it was hot and was a nice cool treat :)
I still after a year have days when I don't get my quota of protien or
fluids, but I still try. Remember, your new tummy is as big as a golf
ball. Get yourself a 2 oz. shot glass and see how much can fit in
there. Get yourself some little spoon and fork to learn small bites.
You will always fill up fast.
I hope this makes since to you. Please let your body heal. Rest, sip
and sip a protien shake.. OH... try vanilla with some frozen
strawberries in the blender!!!! Yummy.....
Susan

would like
just let me know so I can have seating for everyone.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] CONFESSION

Kimberly,
My doctor does nothing but stress the need for the adequate amount of protein
per day 50-60 grams. If this isn't met you could lose your hair along with
it doing damage to muscle tissue (this includes your heart muscle). You should
really check with your doctor right away. I try to get my protein in first
then worry about the rest. Take care and have a good day!

Re: ... DIFFERENT DOCS DIFFERENT ADVICE

2008-07-23 10:20:07

Dear Kim,
A couple of things which I hope you will find helpful:

Re: Surgery tax deductible?

2008-07-23 08:37:10

Well after I went and asked you all about tax deductions for surgery,
I found the info below. It seems the IRS goes by your adjusted gross
income. I'm going to call my tax lady and find out if the IRS does
carry overs on this as I already itemize a lot of other stuff.
Kem
To claim the weight-loss tax deduction adopted two years ago, taxpayers
must itemize uncompensated expenses that have been recommended
specifically to lose weight after a doctor's formal diagnosis.
"This diagnosis can be either for the condition of obesity or for any
other medical condition to which weight loss would play a role in
alleviating it, such as hypertension," Lamishaw tells WebMD. "You
should have some written record of that diagnosis for your files, but
you don't need to submit it with your tax forms."
The expenses must be itemized, and (with other allowed medical
deductions) must exceed 7.5% of adjusted gross income.
For someone with an adjusted gross income of $50,000, weight loss and
other medical expenses would have to exceed $3,750; for a household
earning $80,000 after adjustments, it translates to $6,000 in annual
costs.
In practical terms, this translates to a slim chance that most
Americans trying to trim down can also trim their taxes with only diet
and exercise. However, many people getting gastric-bypass surgery
could get the deduction, since some insurance plans don't cover this
$25,000 "stomach-stapling" operation.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] interesting comment about what we eat

2008-07-22 19:53:53

The diet my husband and I followed before the surgery and the one I
still follow now is South Beach. It's a great program, not so much a
diet as a healthy way of eating. You're really not all that restricted
and the things you aren't supposed to eat are the things GB patients
aren't supposed to eat. For the most part it works well after you get
past the first month or so.

interesting comment about what we eat

2008-07-22 15:02:54

I went to the eye doctor who asked me alot of questions about the surgery and
what i could eat . at the end of his questioning he said that he knew several
patients that had this surgery and that what we are eating is similar to the
South Beach Diet.
I was wondering what you all think about that. I looked into some of the
receipes
http://bestbrand.allrecipes.com/southbeachdiet/default.asp
and it looked kind of interesting because it is stuff we could eat. It might
have things that we cnt/dont eat, but it has alot of stuff we *could* eat.
I was just wondering about your take on this.
I like the idea of having some receipes for variety- especially for breakfast!
just a thought,
monica

should be able to answer that question.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] ... DIFFERENT DOCS DIFFERENT ADVICE

2008-07-21 06:58:21

Amen Kimberly!!!! I feel the same way you do. I too was watching the world
go by without me. Wanting to do so many things and not able to. I'm starting
to get back into life again.
This surgery for me was also the end of the line. My GP and I didn't feel
there was any other way I'd live to a ripe old age. My problems now are trying
to get in the necessary calories and liquid. Never in my life did I ever
think I would ever say "I'm just not hungry".....lol. I have to pretty much
force
down what I eat and struggling to get in 1000 to 1200 calories. Some days I
get closer than others to the 1000. I've already reached this first plateau
and I'm a little frustrated. The Dr said I need to eat more to get the
calories in. So now it seems I'm eating all day....lol.
I'm at the end of my 6th week out of surgery and I'm finding myself real
tired and belly is sore. Not sure if I'm trying to do to much or what. Has
anyone else experienced this? I really haven't lifted or pushed anything heavy
so
I'm hoping I haven't done anything wrong and it's just part of the healing
process.
Well enough rambling for now. Hope everyone has a good day and God Bless!!!

... DIFFERENT DOCS DIFFERENT ADVICE

2008-07-20 21:55:12

(Response to the Charlie horse thing) My doctor says I'm not allowed to
eat bananas yet. He did, however, tell me to include Gatorade in my
diet now for the potassium.
You know what's really strange? I sit here day after day, reading these
emails, and all these doctors are saying totally different things as to
what we can and cannot have. For example, I'm not allowed to have ANY
carbonated drinks what so ever, he said that it was a huge "no, no".
But I see that a lot of other patients are doing it. I was also told
"no sugar and very low fat content" not to mention, low carbohydrates
too. I'm following my doctor's orders right down to the last period.
Let me tell you, I never knew I had so much will power. I failed at
every diet I was ever on, but I'm not going to go through major surgery
and fail this one, I owe it to myself to see this through. Thing that
nobody mentioned about this surgery is that you still get hungry and you
still want certain foods that you can't have.
For those people out there who think that this is "the easy way out",
they have absolutely no idea! For some of us, this is the end of the
line. If we don't do this, we are going to die, that's the hard and
simple truth. I'll tell you one thing though, before this surgery, I
wasn't living. I was existing. Just watching the world go by...wanting
to do things but wasn't physically able to do them.
Anyway, didn't mean to babble on and on.

Congrats Kimberly! I wanted to hit 300 last Friday before flying out to
Phoenix to see my husband and did it, was thrilled :)! Even more
thrilling to have come home and find out I lost another pound and now 2
more so I'm officially under 300, has to have been at least a year
since that. It's really a great feeling. Just keep your chin up, you're

Patty,
I'm sorry you had problems like that after your surgery. That's
great that the diet pop works for you. I'd just never heard of it
helping with digestion like that but I can see where it would make a
difference. It's a good thing you found out about it! I see you had
your surgery in 99. When did you notice changes in your weightloss
after surgery? (I just wonder because I worry about those dreaded
plateaus . . .)
Take care!

DON'T QUIT!

2008-07-19 22:18:39

DON'T QUIT!
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow!
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you're hardest
hit-
It's when things seem worst that you must not
quit.

Carbonated beverages HELP with digestion??? This is the first time
I've ever heard such a thing. I've always been told that we should
stay away from carbonated drinks because they can stretch our
pouches. As the weather temps increase I really miss my diet pop
but I don't want to mess up the weight I've lost! I am curious
about what others have heard. I know a couple people that drink
diet pop (very small amounts) but I've mostly heard negative
comments about it. Sarah and Patty, can you give us more info on
what you've heard about it being okay?
Thanks!!!

Hiya -
What's your name?
Congrats on surgery!
Who told you you need to wait 30 min before and after a shake to drink? A shake
is fluid, and doesn't "stick" in the pouch - the rule about not drinking after
eating is to prevent washing food outta the pouch, preserving the feeling of
full. Doesn't apply to shakes . . .
Also, we drink up to the first bite of food . . . and drink a shake within 30
minutes of mixing it. The protein breaks down after 30 min., leaving nothing
but carbs and calories . . . the only reason to drink so slow is if it hurts
you. Then drink slow enough *not* to hurt, but don't drag it out *all* day . .
. <g
Good luck . . .

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] 9 months out--need HELP!!!

2008-07-16 09:21:52

I am 7 months post-op and I've been doing pretty good
so far. I've lost 132 lbs, with 68 to go till my
goal. Anyway, try looking up the pouch rules for
dummies and going back to that for a week or so. It
will be in the files section of this group. Try
adding protein drinks. I have one for breakfast and
I'm thinking about adding one as a snack because I
haven't lost much in the last week or two. I get the
powder from Vitalady and I choose one that is low in
calories because some of those drinks really have a
lot of calories in them. Mine has 23 grams of protein
and only 90 calories. Up your protein, up your
fluids, up your exercise (or change your exercise
routine) Sometimes your body gets used to the same
exercise day in and day out and it needs a change to
boost it elsewhere. I try to keep my calories between
600-800 a day. I eat 3 meals a day and an evening
snack, which is usually sf hot chocolate and maybe
beef jerky. You have done an awesome job already, but
I know you'd like to get to your goal weight. There
are some people who drink 6 protein shakes a day on
top of their regular meals. This seems like a lot,
but it works for them. Good luck,

is nearly gone and I'm happy that I did it. I haven't really been able
to exercise yet, except for a half a mile walk last night, so I've only
lost 22 lbs. I'm supposed to get my staples out tomorrow, so hopefully
I can start going to the pool again (I love to swim). Oh, and I'm
starting to dream about food every night. I wake up in a panic...then
realize it was just a dream. In my dreams, I over eat like a ton of
food and then get scared that my stomach is going to explode! lol
Can ya'll tell me what sort of "creamy" foods you eat? I'd like to get
a better idea because the only thing I can think of besides soup is
mashed potatoes and I'm really not wanting to consume that many carbs.

The same thing happens to me, daily. My Drs have tested for
everything they could think of. The only thing I have found is...more
water. I now make one of my meals - soup ( I try to make it Chinese
with egg or tofu in it for the protein). I also snack on watermelon
all day plus two water bottles. The Drs say I'm not dehydrated but
it seems to help. It would happen to me whenever I would stand up,
bend over than stand, or get out of bed. I would have to hold onto
something so I wouldn't fall. The liquid thing helped, it didn't get
rid of it all the way but it doesn't happen as frequently. If you
ever find out why it is happening to you please post it because I
don't know if I am just putting a band-aid on a bigger problem that

9 months out--need HELP!!!

2008-07-14 02:34:17

I've been away from the list for a long time. Been reading e-mails when
I can..............everyone here is so helpful, and I need some right now.
I will be 9 months out on June 8th. I have lost 145
pounds.........actually I lost that about a month ago, but I've been on
the dreaded plateau for a while. I think I even gained a couple of
pounds last week, as it was that time of the month for me, which I've
never noticed before, probably because I never owned a scale before now
and I never monitored my weight like I do now.
My starting weight was an even 400 amd I'm 5'7. I'm now at 255. I'm
grateful for the weight loss thus far, but I'm thinking that now I'm
doing everything horribly wrong. I maybe get in 16 oz of water a day (I
used to chug-a-lug water pre-surgery, now I just find that I'm not that
thirsty, and when I really try to down the water, it backs up on me and
I almost gag), and I know I'm not even taking in 1000 calories a day
either. I was drinking my Grande Starbucks (just regular caff coffee)
every day, but then I got scared, thinking that the caffiene was slowing
down my weight loss, so I cut out the coffee. I've drank an occasional
diet coke here and there this last week, and beating myself up about it,
'cuz I had quit cokes last June ( I was easily drinking 6 regular cokes
a day pre-surgery). I don't want to start back in with the coke, even
if it IS diet...................I just DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking that I'm really not eating enough, that my body has gone
into starvation mode. I've not lost a pound in about 6 weeks and I'm
really getting scared. I did NOT have this surgery to only lose 145
pounds. I still need to lose about 80 more pounds.
How many calories should I be taking in? And do y'all really count your
calories? Do you write down everything you eat? How much water are you
drinking? I know it sounds like I should know the answers to these
questions, but I think since I've coasted along, losing the weight so
effortlessly until NOW, I need a swift kick to the rear.
I would appreciate any insight you could give me. Tell me what YOU eat
daily. Do you drink protein drinks? Does caffiene really affect your
weightloss? How in the WORLD am I supposed to get enough protein in?

Hello I am new here, and I see a lot of people on here talking about
sugar free this and that. I have not had the surgery yet, but have been
researching it for about a year and have finally decided that it is the
answer for me. (with my Doctor, of course) My only problem is that a
few years ago I had to give up nutra sweet. I discovered that a lot of
people were getting sick from nutra sweet. I found out that I had many
of the symptoms, and I had been a diet coke junkie, 6 - 8 cans a day.
I absolutely LOVED my Diet Coke! It was the hardest thing I ever did,
having to give that up.
I had chronic headaches, fibromyalgia, depression, memory loss, no
memory retention, chronic fatigue, numbness in my arms, hands, feet,
and face, joint pain, and it was horrible! I felt awful all of the
time, but within 1 week of quitting aspertame, I felt much better, and
in 3 weeks I felt like a new person! Most of my symptoms were gone, and
now they have all gone, and never returned! (for info go to any search
engine and type in sweet poison, aspertame or nutrasweet sick).
Anyways, I just will not do nutrasweet again. Is there something else
out there that anyone knows of? If not, I guess I will stick with
sugar, it is natural and does not make me so ill. I don't want to be
unsuccessful with my surgery, and I don't want to be so sick again. I
have not discovered another possibility yet.
Thank you for any responses! Staci

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Nutrasweet problems

Stacy,
I too had the similar reaction to the aspartame products. I did my
research and found other alternatives years ago, but found that Diet
Rite sodas have the saccrin product, which is fine with me. Atleast
nobody ever died from that poisoning :)
If you watch any TV, you have probably seen the commercials about
Splenda. This is a commonly known product, more so now then a few years
ago, which I was introduced to then. It's a great product, tastes so
much better then the 'poison' you've experienced also. It has been
processed, however, it does start out as a 'sugar'. You can read more
about it online just doing a Google search on Splenda. It measures cup
for cup, spoon for spoon as sugar does, but it's lighter in weight.
This makes it so much easier for cooking and it cooks well at high
temperatures. My family even loves it.
Have you tried any of the Carb Smart ice cream? Well, this contains
Splenda. It's a favorite around here too and with all the new added
flavors they've made, it's a real treat around here. My favorite
besides the strawberry is the mint chocolate chip. Yummy!!!
There are other options also, somersweet, (Suzanne Somers sells this) as
well as stevia a more natural very sweet product that you can find at
specilty health food stores.
Anyhow, good luck in your search. Grab yourself some Splenda in bulk or
even yellow packets, (Starbucks uses these now!) Try out a few things.

memory retention, chronic fatigue, numbness in my arms, hands, feet,
and face, joint pain, and it was horrible!
Staci

ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE DIED FROM THE BANDING BRAKEING I CHOSE THE LAP BP I HAVE
LOST 85 IN 3 MONTHS I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU

Re: lap or bypass? which do you consider the best way?

2008-07-11 04:24:01

I suggest you need to do some more reading since it appears you don't
have a complete grasp of the terms you use. Start by going to this
groups Home page (on your left) and read the preface: "What is Gastric
Bypass?"
Basically there are two types of surgery, Laparoscopic and Open. Then
there are different types of obesity surgery. There are several
Restrictive Surgery Procedures. Then, there are Combined Restrictive
and Malabsorptive Surgery procedures. There are also some other
procedures that are usually no longer recommended including one called
Intestinal Bypass which is what you may be referring to but is not
used much anymore.
You should familiarize yourself with all the different types of
gastric bypass surgeries before you can ask people which they favor.
Many times it is the local surgeon with the expertese that is the
overriding factor and may be supported by your in network insurance
policy. Some folks have educated themselves well enough to know
specifically which proceedure is going to give them the best tool to
lose the weight and maintain that weight loss after the 12-18 month
"window of opportunity" is over. It is very easy to regain the weight
that is lost if you don't understand the process and that you will be
responsible for limiting your food intake after your surgery has
helped you lose the weight.
This is a tool for weight loss not a tool for weight loss maintenance.
You will have to do the work to keep your weight loss after your
surgically altered insides return to their pre surgical size. This
process is called adaptation. It is built into the human survival
ability to regenerate damaged tissues so we can continue to survive.
After about two years you will be able to eat enough to start putting
on weight again. Prepare yourself for the task ahead. It will be
worth it but you should do more research.

lap or bypass? which do you consider the best way?

I am just curious as to if most people do the lap band or the
gastric?? Did i make the wrong decision by choosing to have the by
pass done? Should i think twice and maybe just do the lap band..

that is rather strange that we will be having the same doctor! I'm in san Diego

Re: Looking for clothes pants sizes 14-16 shirt sizes large x-large

2008-07-08 22:36:08

Kelly,
I found a wonderful and cheap source of clothing. Go to eBay and join
and then go to "search" and type in "tops and your size" Keep that
search information in the "favorites" section and start another search
for pants and when you get that search result add it to your
favorites. In the future you can then go to your saved favorites and
easily check out what is offered. I usually make a pile of items I'm
interested in following by putting them in the "Items I'm Watching"
category. Then if they go out of my price range I just delete it. If
I really like it and the bidding seems close I stay close to the end
of auction time and with under a minute to go will put in a bid as
high as I can imagine wanting to pay. I have never had to pay that
much because I time it so close that no one has time to raise the bid.
If they do they had a bid in higher than I was willing to pay and I
just let it go....there's always more another day. Anyhow that's my
secret trick to getting super values at eBay.
Good luck,
Cathy

yes we can put on weight after the surgery remember it is a tool and
you will have to watch what you eat and how much. carb beverages will
stretch the stomach and over eating will also . eating sweets and
high carb foods will do the same. this is juat a way for us to start
over you will always need to watch what you eat and how much . i did
see carnie and was shocked also at her weight gain.it just let's us
know to watch our selfs after the surgery and i have always said that
marriage was fattening because now you cook for someone else and
everybody eats different, i will keep in mind carnie when i want to
eat something i should not.

I enjoyed this email I have been so into the only reason I would have this
drastic surgery is due to the medication ..........I am mega insulin both
shots and pills ....high blood pressure....nexum / xanax and so on. I was
told this is cure for all the things that haunt my health I am near the 100
pounds over weight but the weight is not the biggest thing for me...........
...For most it may be to reach that perfect size society believe it to be
but I want to wake up one morning and not start having to push the pills in
my mouth and the needles ..........I want to walk past my front yard and not
give out of breath.........I know I am far away from getting the surgery for
I just finished the paper work a week ago and I know my insurance will
approve me and so on and patience has never been one of my better qualities
but I understand where you are coming from ...........I would love to be
where you are and one day I will be ............

Re:Weight Loss Questions

MIMI
I started out with a goal of only 92 lbs to lose. My pre-op BMI was only 37,
but my reasons were more to reverse or ease many diseases I was dealing with
rather than get into a size 12. I am 5'9 1/2 " with a large bone frame (for
real). I lost 1/3 of my excess weight the first 3 months post-op, a short
honeymoon for me. The rest has been in fast 10 lb increments with plateaus
inbetween of 3-5 weeks. I guess my body is catching up in between and Im glad
b/c it means Im not losing muscle mass.
Yes, I have no choice but to have a lot of PATIENCE. I do get frustrated at the
recent slow loss but I no longer pay $280/month in RX co-pays for 21 rx pills a
day, Im off all insulin and other diabetic meds, Nexium and other gastric reflux
meds, Celebrex, Paxil CR, Wellbutrin, Xanax. Cozaar for hypertension has been
halved, plus am off Lipitor and I cant remember what else.
I only need lots of PATIENCE to lose 30 more lbs and I will be a happy camper.
Im told it takes someone who only has 100 lbs to lose the same 12-18 months to
reach goal as someone with 300 lbs to lose, that proportionately our bodies
cannot adjust to everyone losing 100 lbs at the same time.
After taking 30 years to accumulate this weight, and 30 New Years Resolutions to
get it off, 12 months dont really seem that long to lose it all.
Patience, Patience, Patience... it will pay off

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Pasta

2008-07-06 12:32:26

To All,
I know that each surgeon has their own rules to follow after surgery, so, I
just thought I would mention this: My surgeon, Dr Barry Fisher, does not want
his patients to eat any slippery foods, and that would include pasta. The
reason being that slippery foods do not stay in your pouch for long, so thay
slide out quickly, and then you don't have that full feeling for long at all.
I am also curious if anyone here has been told to drink 32 ozs of milk a day?
I have seen some postings here and there about that, but my surgeon doesn't
do that one. aND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THAT IS IMPORTANT. I do take tums 2
pills 2x a day.
Thanks,

Re: Hello Everybody

2008-07-06 07:12:49

Hi Michelle,
I just want to say one thing in regards to your last comment...this surgery may
or may not cause you to suffer ill effects when you eat the wrong foods. Some
people can eat sugar and most people can eat fat without any problem.
Overeating is one thing that can definitely cause some pain, but grazing the
same amount of food won't hurt and it can cause you to stop losing or to gain.
My point is, if you're going to do it, be sure that YOU are committed to making
it work. It is a great weight loss tool, but it isn't meant to work by itself.
Learn as much as you can about it now, and go into this as well informed as you
can. If you have any questions, I'm glad to help if I'm able. I'll be away for
a couple days, but I'll be sure to answer soon.

my appointments today

2008-07-05 18:02:45

they all went great, I'm exhausted! I just wish they weren't so far apart I
think that's what made me so tired. the psychologist is recommending me do my
own "diet" for 3 months without gaining any weight and working my way up to an
hour non-stop on the treadmill. if I can do that after 3 months then they will
proceed w/ a surgery date. the internets or the surgeon didn't even recommend
this which in a way sucks cause this is holding me back. but it's good so I can
be used to this and starting my daily vitamins as well. I can also save more
money & accrue more sick/vacation time so I don't have to take as much time on
disability. so I have to look at this in a positive light so to speak. so that
is my update!

Michelle...
Most people tend to remember other people's bad experiences whether or not the
person with the bad experience was compliant or brought the problems on
themselves over remembering the good experiences. I also have learned, outside
a group like this, many people secretly or unconsciously do not want you to
succeed and lose the weight.
Go for it for your own reasons; you do not need other s approval. You are the
one who has to live with the choice you make; and if you are compliant you
should have no problems.
