Check out www.flat-d.com they make the flatulence deodorizer.
It is an activated charcoal cloth pad that you place in your

It really works and it is Doctor recommended and FDA Registered.

We went to dinner at a griend's house and she made chicken on the
grille. I tried just a little bite, thnking it would be too tough for
me, but it was surprisingly soft and tender. She said she just
marinated it overnight. It's one of the few times I could digest chicken.

Linda,
You could avoid cluttering your e-mail box the way I do. I select "No
email" on my preferences page. Go to "Edit My Membership" and under
the heading: Message Delivery - choose No email. If you ever want to
see what's going on just go to the internet site:

Linda, you have your preferences set to deliver individual emails.
What you may choose to do [instead of leaving the group] is go into
your group preferences and set the radio button to daily digests
instead. I'll bet you won't be overwhelmed with this setting.
People get busy, so if this happens simply delete the email for the
days you have no time to read, and open the ones you have time for.

should be a link at the bottom of the emails to unsubscribe. If not,

Rice & Popcorn & physiology

2008-09-27 05:26:05

Rice is OK to eat of you are on solid diet. It has already expanded
when it cooked in water, so remember this is an old wives tale
[plus, we don't drink when we are eating as a rule, so how could it
expand?]. I rarely eat a bit of rice, because, remember protein
first! I'd rather have vegetables and fruit secondarily, so rice I
rarely have room for... but if you want a couple of nibbles of rice,
go for it.
Popcorn it the same, I have no problem eating it either. I use
popcorn when I get head hunger...which is rare. I've still not
experienced stomach hunger after 13 months, so I don't need popcorn
often, but when that munching urge takes over, popcorn is a good
choice. And, popcorn actually decreases in size when it is chewed,
so this is the reason you can seemingly eat so much of it...remember
how small the cournel was before it was popped, well it shrinks not
quite as small, but substancially smaller than the popped size.

Re: Popcorn Do Or DOn't???

2008-09-26 16:23:18

Hi Crystal,
First, you are 6.5 months and still in your window of opportunity.
You can stretch your pouch at this point and it will cause you to
feel full easily. You should read pouch rules to understand how your
pouch works so you will use it to your best advantage to lose as much
weight as possible before your pouch stretches out and weight loss stops.
Now, the note from Robin was important for what it didn't say. Look
at her stats. She is at the end of her window of opportunity and she
can eat all sorts of things that you shouldn't eat yet. It doesn't
matter if her pouch stretches at this point. She is at a different
stage in her use of her pouch than you are.
Please copy the pouch rules for dummies on this site. Go to the
lefthand column under Files and about 8 items down you will find
"Pouch Rules for Dummies". Copy it and learn it.
Let us know how you are feeling about eating anything but protein to
fill your pouch after you read it.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Corn on the cob

that's exactly the same thing that happens to me. i'm going on 4 months post

Corn on the cob

2008-09-26 10:32:15

Yes, I eat corn on the cob and do just fine. I tried it at about 6
months post-op, I'm 13 months post-op now.
The only thing that bothered me after I started solid food was if I
drank even a sip of liquids after eating. Like the other girl said,
only the liquid would come up; not the solid food.
But lately, I can drink a bit of water after eating, if I feel I
need to. Usually I wait 20 minutes or so.

diarrhea - NO gatorade or Pedialyte! OWWW!

2008-09-25 23:20:40

OMG! I just read the advice to you to drink Gatorade and/or Pedialyte . . . *DO
NOT DO IT!* Either will make you dump, and will worsen your problem! What is
you food plan like right now? If you're on liuquids, only, you will have
diarrhea. Your bod cannot make solids out of liquids.
If you're eating solid food, you may have gotten something that made you dump.
Just because it isn't sweet, doesn't mean it won't make you dump. Fat can also
make us dump, as can many fiber supplements. I'm having a current battle with
dumping - too much fruit.
My best advice? Go back to protein foods and shakes, supplements (vites and
minerals), very low glycemic indes veggies only. Take a couple tablespoons of
flax seed meal (grind your own with coffee mill, or buy refrigerated from health
food store), mix with a couple tablespoons of boiling water. Season with
DaVinci SF syrup, or SPlenda, a dab of butter. Eat like cereal, before taking
your vites of protein shakes. Do this everyday for a couple of days, and it
will help with diarrhea.

Amy: suggestions on fluids for first two weeks, headed to store in 1 hour???

2008-09-25 19:47:57

Amy,
I am 7 days post op lap RNY..I will tell you what I can have..that
may help. Clear broths, chicken, beef, vegetable etc. Yogurt sugar
free or fat free without fruit chunks, skim milk up to 8 oz a day,
sf puddings made with that skim milk, jello..clear of course, grape
or apple juice..diluted with water..4 parts water, 1 part juice. You
will be drinking tons of water..and protein drinks..you will need at
least 65 grams of protein a day. Lo Carb, low fat...is the best. I
like Atkins chocolate..but its only 22 protein a day.
One tip I do have, get a belt, or jacket belt, and take it with you
to the hospital. It hurts like blue blazes to get out of bed on your
new tummy surgery...if you just loop the belt when you want up out
of bed, and stick a foot in the loop, you can easily pull yourself
up to a sitting position by extending your foot...so much easier on
the sore muscles.
Good Luck!

2008-09-23 17:29:46

It always happens to me when I go low-carb. I have been on the Atkins diet
before with my husband. It does not affect him that way, but ingesting all the
meat definitely gives me diarrhea. It eventually gets better, but while I am on
it I never have really solid (sorry to be graphic) stool again. Must be
something with not getting carbs in your diet to bind it. That would be my
guess.
Did your surgeon put you on a pre-op diet or is this something you are trying to
do for you so that you can get some weight off before surgery?

I had my nails done after surgeyr and never had this. Is it the stuff she is

turn colors not the fake ones. Maybe it is her products. i would just have them
painted a color so the brown does not show up or get them redone somewhere
else and see what happens. JMO though. good Luck.

Re: Corn

2008-09-22 19:55:21

Now I was never told to avoid rice. What's the reasoning for that? I
know they told us to avoid white bread as it tends to ball up in your
pouch and not digest. Think of taking a slice of Wonder Bread and
rolling it into a ball with our hands. (in fact the nutritionist told
a story of one woman who was a nurse in the surgeon's office and was
embarassed to tell him that she was in distress from eating white
bread. Apparently the bread had formed into a ball inside. She
decided, on her own mind you, to swallow some meat tenderizer to break
it up. Fortunately it worked and she didn't need to have the doctor
retrieve the ball of bread)
Perhaps the reason for the rice is the same as the white bread.
Anyway, we were told to eat only whole wheat bread, and to toast that
as well.

after being in a tanning bed or smoking, but I havent done either..
So i went back yesterday and she redid them, and wola, today they are
turning brown again.... Could this possibly be from my vitamins i am

Amy, try some Tylenol PM. It's not addictive and will help you get some
sleep between now and the surgery. You'll be feeling good soon and won't
need it after that! Kelley

Re: did anyon e have trouble sleeping before there surgery?

2008-09-21 08:24:19

Absolutely Amy!!!
I had terrible trouble sleeping right before my surgery. I think
thats common for people to be that nervous no matter what kind of
surgery you're having. Hang in there and soon you'll be smiling at
the numbers on your scale. It's been months and sometimes I still
can't believe that I've lost this much weight so far.
As for the not being able to sleep, it seemed like it was taking
forever right before my surgery but I just sorta waited it out and
kept trying to think about the positive future I was going to have
for a change. The thing is that people can have trouble sleeping
from worrying but also from being excited and happy and getting
wound up. I can't give any advice other than hang in there and
before you know it you'll be on the 'losing side':)

P.S. Maybe someone else on the board can give some good advice or

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Corn

2008-09-20 14:33:03

It has always been my understanding that our bodies, whether altered through
surgery or completely intact, can't digest corn. You might be able to eat
it,but I am not sure you would get any benefit from it and not sure how that
would hinder digestion since it comes out (sorry to be blunt) in the same form
it went in.

Corn

2008-09-20 09:46:27

Has anyone tried eating corn on the cob after surgery? I'm 9 weeks
post-op and while I can eat a lot more foods now, I'm leery of it. I
heard from the nutritionist that it can be hard to digest. But I must
say...it's looking good when I serve it to my family.

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] 7 more days to go

2008-09-20 09:36:01

Starlet,
I just got my C-Pap about a month and a half ago. I hated it at first. There
were times in the middle of the night that I would rip it off because I felt
like I was suffocating. I wasn't, of course, but it freaked me out. But I have
gotten used to it and sleep through the night now. It took me about a month to
get really used to it and to the point that I could tell that it was working.
Does your unit ramp up? That has been a help for me. I get to sleep while it
is on a low setting and then when it gets to the setting where it should be I am
usually asleep. And the longer you wear it, you will not be able to tell it is
blowing air. I now have to open my mouth to see if it is blowing or not because
I can't feel it. Hang in there. It will be very frustrating and annoying at
first, but you will get used to it. And it could be a life saver some day.

Amy...what did i drink

2008-09-18 22:37:35

I drank a lot of Propel fitness water, jello, beef and chicken broth
(swansons already prepared in a resealable container, Crystal Lite
Sunrise...diluted 1/3 juice to 2/3 water, ummm...I added knox nutra
joint powder to my juice for extra protein.
My mom stayed with me and was a great resource. She used propel for
half of the water content in making the jello, and it made it less
sugar free tasting, tho propel is LOW in calories..only 10 per
serving, and it has B vitamins.
I live by my propel, have it with me all the time, and am thankful I
found it...long before surgery. It got me off of pop all together.
I still have 1 cup of coffee in the morning, and now eat soft foods.
I haven't found anything that didnt agree as of yet, but each day a
new food to try. Today I had some garlic shrimp, and all went well.
Biggest tip I could give at this point....drink slowly and when you
start to eat "food" make sure you CHEW CHEW CHEW and then Chew some
more. I have also found that aside from drinking with my meal as per
dr. order, it doesnt sit well with me...even a sip. I haven't
experienced any dumping or vomiting from something disagreeing with
me...I drank a couple sips after eating...and the sips came back
up...but not the food (thank goodness). Other than that, all has
gone remarkably well. My incision is almost completely closed and
looks great.
Bottom line, do what your doc suggests...his program is based on his
knowledge and experience, and with good reasons for his suggestions.
Good Luck...See you on the "losing" side soon.

The RNY diet prescribed to me, which went from Clear Liquids on day one
to Full Liquids day two for one week to Pureed Diet week two to Soft Diet
beginning week three listed low fat yogurt in the Full Liquids diet on week one.
In fact, yogurt was on my tray the morning following surgery.
For me, the best tasting was also the cheapest - Great Value Light flavored
Yogurt found at Walmart, although it sports 7g of sugars. I havent heard of
the Hood/Atkins brand.... I will look for it this week.

our second child in Sept. 03 I was sure we were never going to make
ends meet. At first I tried to be a SAHM but couldn't afford it so I
started working part time to supplement my spouses salary. Then at
Chrsitmastime that same year my boss gave each of us a stocking
stuffer from the company listed above. I don't believe he ever
realized what a difference he would make in our lives. Using their
programs I have been able to cut our grocery bills from around $
275.00 per week to never more than $23.00 per week and I am still
able to buy the same brands and quantities as before! The other
program that I received was from a company at
http://networkofsavings.com where you get to try samples, trials and
previews and on top of that they reward you with restaurant gift
certificates to any restaurant of your choice. My father always
taught us that it isn't how much you earn, but how wisely you spend
your money that makes the difference, his motto has now become
reality in my household. I am sharing this hoping that I can help at
least one person that is in a similar predicament that I was once in.

Cravings?

2008-09-17 20:57:46

I am a newbee here with a question. I am pre-op, scheduled for July
13th. I have serious issues with sugar cravings and am wondering if
this surgery will help with that. I know that I will not be able to
eat sugary foods without experiencing the "dumping syndrome", but
will I still crave those foods like I do now? I've heard some talk
about having less of the hunger hormone in my blooodstream because of
the smaller stomach... But I still don't understand about the
cravings. Will I end up having to exert a huge amount of willpower to
stop eating sweets?
Thanks!

Sunflower - congratulations on your day. I would recommend you do all
your post-op shopping ahead of time (drinks, food, etc.) so you can
relax when you get home and don't have to go out if you don't want.
Also if you're a clean fanatic, make sure your house is clean/laundry is
done cause you ain't gonna feel like doing it for a while once you get
home...at least I didn't :-) Above all, put yourself first...be
selfish...your needs before anyone else's. Make sure to follow all of
your doctor's rules regarding water/protein.
Take care and congrats.

Exercise buddies

2008-09-16 19:16:44

Hi again,
If anyone wants to get together & support each other while
exercising in your home, or even on a portable phone, you can get
together on a bridge-line. These are conference calls that only cost
the price of long-distance charges. I use these for teleclasses all
the time. Fortunately, I have a $20 a month unlimited toll and long
distance rate from SBC Global any time of day or night, so because I
have a flat fee for my long-distance, I can use these teleclasses as
often as I want.
When my coaching buddies & I want to get together for practice
sessions we use: www.freeconference.com ...it is free to sign up and
you just tell the bridge-line how many phones you need to reserve,
the time and date and then email your friends invitations to attend.
You'll need their names, email addresses and the time zone they live
in. Once you have this information you can develop a list and save
it for future calls. It is easy to add people as you go. I'd say
probably 10 people is the limit, as you will all want to chat
together and big groups limit how much you can talk. If this takes
off you can branch out and have multiple sessions a week at
different times. You could even post the bridgeline information on
the board and people could just come to visit. If someone can't get
into the call it will be because the limit to phone lines has been
met for that session. What I usually do is reserve 10 phone-lines,
mail out the invitations to our group, and also post the information

bathroom aid

2008-09-15 20:10:31

i have heard where some people needed help in the bathroom after surgery,
depending on their size and abilities. i've had friends that have used long
handled tongs to wooden spoons. i was furtunate and was able to bypass all
that,
well except for the first time. was just too scared to bend with my
incision...lol. but after i was home i didn't have any trouble.

Abdominoplasty

2008-09-15 07:24:19

Before deciding when is the best time for that tummy tuck, one
should consider a few things. First...the smaller you are when you
have it done, the more excess skin can be removed. Second, if you
are planning to be a mommy, you may want to wait until after you
have a baby before your tummy tuck. It would really suck to go
through all that, get preggers, and then have all them stretch marks
again. My surgeon has a plastic surgeon in his office and suggests
waiting until goal weight before having it done. Me personally, I am
hoping for mommyhood, so i am going to wait until after that. Good
luck.

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] June 23 is the day, starting to get s cared.

2008-09-15 01:42:12

You need to focus on all the positive things that will happen to you because
of the weight loss. I've set aside some of the very positive emails that
have come through to keep me encouraged. People wearing bikini's and going
on roller coasters, all the fun things some have never been able to do. I
am personally focusing on the fact I may not have to take 12-15 prescription
drugs for the rest of my life. That alone will keep me positive and
focused.

Milestones

2008-09-14 23:25:51

Congrats on ALL milestones. Don't minimize the importance of these,
as we all know how great it must feel to be able to cross your
legs...or not have to sit halfway in the back seat of the car to
make room for belly. For me, I have thought of all the silly and not
so silly things I want to do when I get thin...dont laugh...but I
want to do amateur nite at a strip club...not because I want to be
naked...but just to say I CAN!! as that is one of the things that
society says "fat people" cant do. I look forward to not "filling"
the bathtub with my body, and being able to soak without fear of the
wrong movement making the water overflow. I look forward to being
able to sit in a plastic lawn chair, you know those cheap
ones...without the arms of the chair making imprints on my legs. I
look forward to being able to make love to my honey in ANY
position...not having to accomodate for my size or the weight
bearing on my knees. Just anything..you name it...i am excited to
finally be on the losing side. One mini milestone for me...going
under 300. I have not been under 300 since 1997, and I am now 288. I
really noticed it in the butt area of my jeans...still size 26...but
no longer so tight that ya gotta lay on the bed to zip em up. Those
are my thoughts...blah blah blah.

much nervous of the surgery itself, I had all the faith in the world in my dr.

was was going to be history. but trust me, i do not regret one day since
surgery. just listen to your dr and do what he/she tells you and everything
will be
great. good luck and God bless!

Re: June 23 is the day, starting to get scared.

2008-09-14 12:44:35

It is perfectly normal to get scared. Every single one of us has
went through that and it doesn't matter what kind of surgery a
person has---its expected to get nervous beforehand. I am happy to
tell you that my surgery was months ago and I have not regretted it
once since then. The days before my surgery were tough and I got
sooooo nervous I couldn't even sleep at night. I made a point of
reminding myself why I wanted the surgery. I just kept focusing on
the positive things about the surgery--how I would be able to have a
life again, do things with my family, wear normal clothes, feel
better about myself, etc. I would suggest that you do your best to
keep yourself busy, (idle time can be worry time) and make a list of
reasons why you want the surgery and keep reminding yourself. Also,
imagine the new you!
Take care and keep us posted.

Hey Eileen,
Thanks for posting the link to the plastic surgery info. I noticed
at the support group I go to occasionally and from reading messages
online that some people go ahead with the surgery after they've lost
a bit of weight but are not near their goal and others wait until
they are very close to their goal before having the plastic
surgery. My dr recommends waiting until you are as close to your
goal as possible before having the surgery done which makes sense to
me. Anyways, thanks for posting the link.

Cosmetic Surgery Questions

I was wondering about cosmetic surgery. Has anyone here
had liposuction/reconstructive cosmetic surgery on your

big is the resulting scar? Is the scar really obvious or
ugly?? Also, how was the recovery process?

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Question about soft food

2008-09-12 12:32:31

Hi Dora, yes in my case it was part of my soft foods diet and I didn't
encounter any issues with dairy as I have heard some people can
initially. I focused a lot on dairy trying to get the protein and
calcium in. There are a lot of choices for low-carb yogurts too, Blue
Bunny, Carb Control and Hood/Atkins just came out with one called
CarbCounter that is fabulous, low carb, low fat, no sugar and it takes
excellent, found it at Publix here in Atlanta.

Potatos , coffee, etc.

2008-09-11 21:35:55

Wow, there is such a difference in doctor and nutritionists opinions.
I got blasted by my nutritionist when I told her I avoided potato,
breads and crackers. She said I needed to eat some carbs, not much,
but some every week. Popcorn is fine for me, as are nuts, dried
fruits and trail mixes.
I got tired of the headaches and have resumed drinking coffee since
about 6 months out. Coffee doesn't bother me a bit and the morning
headaches are gone...could not stand feeling so worn out in the
morning as well. yep, I use the flavored coffemates too. But no more
than two a day.
Every variety of one particular brand of frozen yogurt makes me sick
[that I bought from a home delivery store] but the ones at the
yogurt shops don't have any adverse effects. A moderate amount of
Low-fat ice cream is ok for me too, as is cheesecake. I can also
drink any type of juices. I don't eat or drink much of any of these,
as they are not a good use of calories, but it just to show you
every one is different.
Any meat, chicken, or fish that is moist I can eat; but I still
cannot tolerate dryish meats, chicken or fish...I'll vomit them
almost immediately. Other than these everything stays down unless
I'm too full, them I vomit only the excess...which is totally
odd...unlike having the flu; it is kind of like a baby spitting up
the excess milk when they burp. Very odd we humans. Lynda

Regarding skin elasticity

2008-09-11 16:05:45

Today's Motivation: No one really knows why some people can become
very large and then loose an amazing amount of weight, and it seems,
just as easily they become firm and lean, without stretch-marks, as
if they were never fat [or preganant.]
At 18 I weighed 132# and could eat anything. Between the age of 19
and 21 I gained about 90# after my babies were born. When I was in
my 30s I lost about 70# and looked very firm [even in a two piece
bathing-suit]. No one would have guessed I had been much heavier if
they looked at my skin [excluding my belly, because I was one of
those that had oddles of stretch marks from pregnancies that never
went away.] Needless to say, I gained back almost twice what I had
lost over the years, and ended up at age 55 at 326# when I had my
surgery April 28 2003.
Since then I have lost 102# in the past 13 months. Although not
gross by any means, I do notice my skin is not nearly as elastic as
it was 20 years ago. Even with my looser skin, I'd still prefer this
sagging look to the load I used to carry around.
Because I do not exercise is the probable reason I have had such a
slow weight loss. My first plateau at six weeks out lasted until
week 12. Then many more plateaus came after that. As I stated a few
days ago, I lost 87# in the first 6 months; but only 15# in the last
7 months...and the past 4 months I've been on another plateau. So,
take it from me, those that are able bodied...please do your body
work and exercise! Your skin will look so much better and you'll
gain strength, agility, muscle. Even those with arthritis will
usually feel much less pain than those of us who can't excercise
much due to our disabilities, or as in my case, the effects of old
major trauma.
So all you who are reasonably able, get moving! I bet you will be
glad you did...let us know your results! Regards, Lynda

Jennifer 40# in Two Weeks

2008-09-11 12:01:19

Jennifer: You must get in your liquids, otherwise you will become
dehydrated and possibly experience electrolyte imbalances which can
have serious health consequences.
A 40 pounds weight loss in 2 weeks sounds quite extreme! Does your
doctor know how much you've lost? If not, be sure to call him/her
and let them know. If you are weak, dizzy, leg cramps, heart
palpitations, ect. contact your healthcare provider immediately. Do
not self medicate for the diarrhea, ask your surgeon what to do for
this...in the meantime keep drinking, eating jello, popsicles,
broth, or whatever else you can tolerate.
You say you feel fine, so that's good! Just stay healthy and don't
take any chances. If you think something may be wrong, go with
your "gut" [pun-intended!]
Much praise for the hard work you must have done to loose this
weight the past two weeks. Remember, sometimes the scale will not
move for weeks, so bask in this powerful feeling now and savior the
moment. Lynda

Thank you. I am very worried because I only had about 2 oz. of cream
of chicken soup today and a lot of water, when I wasn't getting
sick. I can't force myself to eat another thing right now. All this
talk about being pregnant is so strange. I am 21 and on the shot so
that is not a possibility plus while recovering I am definetly not
in the mood. They wouldn't have done my surgery if I was pregnant
anyways, so that is out. I was worried that no one had this happen
to them. I am glad to hear that but sorry to hear that it lasted 3
months for you.

I'm so dumb sometimes

2008-09-10 12:05:56

I just recently figured out why I had such depression after surgery and
wanted to stay in bed and cry for like 3-4 months. I was on klonopin and Prozac
for
anxiety attacks and depression and after surgery i was very moody, cried ALL
the time, and just watned to sleep. I blamed it on being below zero out and i
was adjusitng to something new. Anyways, I ahve all but quit my depressions
meds and anxiety meds and i have hardly any, if any, effect from it and i am
sure it is because i was not absorbing them anymore and I am alrady used to
being
without them. I am glad to be almost off these meds. i am only taking a
quarter on the Klonopin now and 1 prozac and some days I forget to take them so
it
won't be long now. So, I guess after surgery i was having withdrawals and did
not realize it.

Posting with a wave of relief

2008-09-08 20:27:06

I must say that I am mainly a lurker...and a sponge...I have been absorbing
all this wonderful information for the past month.
Just wanted to get into the fray and tell my progress...for I'm sure I will
have questions popping up for the next year.;-)
I went into the hospital last Tuesday, June 8, and was weighed at 367. I
had the laposcopic surgery late afternoon. Felt terrific. My off day was
the following day, but I did walk without any trouble...and did so well they
let me go home the following day. I would say the worse thing was what I
had inquired about here earlier...caffeine withdrawal. Boy the headache!
Now that I see the ending of this part...I will never go back to caffeine
again!
Anyway I had my first visit to the doctor today...to remove the drain pouch.
I had lost 22 pounds! So far everything seems great. I believe I will have
to use MoM a bit, but the doctor didn't seem considered at this stage.
I love all the info here...especially the suggestion of the fat pouch for
the insurance approval.
Thanks everyone for sharing and being here.

Lynda,
Thanks for the note of confidience, I am really scared being my first
pregnancy and also having been only 7 months post-op. I know at the
time I was receiving the fertility treatments, I was so depressed
because I was at my wits end when they told me it was my weight (that
was before I even heard about this Gastric Bypass surgery). So this
surgery not only saved my life but because of it, I can now give
life. Me and my husband prayed and prayed for a baby and finally, it
will happen.

Bethany,
I still have this same issue, since I never really feel hungry, I never really
feel full either until I've eaten too much and feel sick later. I stick to 3
tablespoons, measured on almost any soft food I eat. Then I am less likely to
overeat. We went out for dinner the other night though and I had just a small
amount of fajita and a few beans and didn't realize it until we left that I felt
awful. I'm sure we will soon learn when to stop. I guess I am glad at least I
haven't ate to the point of having it come back up.

When I have been eating soft foods for the last week, I have not had
a feeling of being full. I get a headache or light headed for 5
minutes and I know that it is time to stop eating. This evening I
had 1/2 baked potato with margarine and fat free sour cream. I ate
slow and 1/2 hour later I felt like I was going to be sick. I know
that I did not even come close to my 2 oz. portioned meal size. I
was wondering how everyone knows when they are full before they
become overstuffed. I could be feeling full but I feel like I am
overstuffed. My brain is confused I think because I used to have a
stomach and now I have a pouch. Everything is so messed up right
now.

Eileen,
What a great idea she had. I'll have to remember that when and if the need
arises. I know my insurance will pay for the tummy tuck but I'm not sure what
else, if anything. Take care and have a great day!.

I know of someone who took 5-10 lbs of fat and placed it in a ziploc baggy.
She sent it along with her letter and request for an appeal. In her letter
she wrote please consider this surgery to be for reconstruction and not for
appearances. If you have any doubt, please strap on this wad of fat to you
underarm and see how it feels walking around with it for just one day.
Unless to say, they approved the reconstruction on her arms and thighs. Her
insurance carrier was BC/BS PA.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Long Time No Post!

Sandi that's great! The weightloss and getting back into eating and
still focusing on proteins. You're not too far from me in Anniston, we
pass through there heading from Atlanta to my husband's family's home
in Cullman, AL. You're doing so great! I know what you mean about the
hunger, I'm only 2 months out, but I just don't really get hungry and
pay close attention to the "head hunger". Most of what I eat is
protein. This past weekend we snuck away to Hilton Head and I ate
seafood all weekend, it was wonderful :)! I never look at this as a
diet and neither does my husband (who has lost a pant size and 15
pounds since I had surgery :) ). We eat less, most meals out we share
and that makes a world of difference. On the drive back this weekend we
talked a lot about it, he agreed...at this point I could probably eat
most anything, I have had little if any problems with foods, I just
take it nice and slow. But I don't choose to have anything, I make sure
to really think about everything I eat and choose very carefully
because I know I can't eat much of it anyway. If you look at it as a
diet and think you can't have some of things you used to love it
becomes difficult and cumbersome. You just have choose what you have
and don't have. Keep up the great work Sandi! You're an inspiration!

Long Time No Post!

2008-09-05 18:06:38

Hi Again Folks! It has been a long time between posts again. I will
be 10 months out as of June 26th. I am down 166.2 pounds. I have
58.8 pounds to lose to get to my personal goal and 23.8 to get to
where Dr. Freeman says I should be able to get to. I have been
taking the last few pounds off very slowly. My mom says I was not
eating enough and has taken it into her head to feed me every day
since she is keeping my boys for me during the summer. I have eat
more the last three weeks than I believe I have since I had the
surgery! LOL! I am sticking with good things like grilled chicken
and steak though so it is good proteins. Except for the summer
squash which she knows I love and can't resist so she keeps cooking
it for me. :) Even though I want to lose more weight I would be
happy with what I have accomplished even if I didn't lose another
pound (hope I didn't jinx myself there! hehehehe). My problem is I
still haven't gotten my hunger sensation back so I really don't want
to eat. I have to consciously think about eating something and that
is very strange for me. I am still a popcorn junky (was before
surgery as well) and have to stay away from it because I know I will
eat it. I have no problem with popcorn either. Where as I can only
eat a small amount of most things, could eat an entire bag of
popcorn if I let myself! I have nibbled a cookie here and there
where as I wouldn't use to, but it is never more than two and only on
rare occasioons. I figure this is ok as Dr. Freeman says this is a
lifestyle change and not a diet and if you deprive yourself of these
things constantly you will feel like it is a diet and are more apt to
eat too much of them too regularly! Does that make sense? Am I the
only one who looks at it that way? Anyway, just wanted to check in
with every one and let you know how things are going. Keep skinny
wishes for me in your thoughts and skinny wishes to all of you!!

There is also a great support group in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. They meet
once/month at Gundersen Lutheran. Also, Dr. Kothari (who performs the
surgeries) and his "team" host the Bari-Ball once/year and it's a blast.
We have a wonderful meal (chosen by the nutritionist), Dr. K. gives his
annual talk and then we dance the night away.
The LaCrosse group also have a website (www.rnylacrosse.com) and
regularly chat on line.

Hello gang,
It's been a while just living life. I have to say I am so happy since
surgery. Stairs used to be my nemesis and now I don't even blink
twice when I have to climb them. I have to say it's almost two years
since surgery and I feel fit. I'm not at my goal weight yet but I
feel by the second anniversary I will be which is Dec of this year.
I'm afraid to go clothes shopping. I don't know why I know I must
have dropped about four dress sizes. Sometimes I still see myself as
that fat girl and when I put on my clothes they are so big. When I go
to the gym everybody keeps telling me how good I look but I'm still
very negative toward my body image. It's that awful? but I still have
to work on my mindset. Even when men talk to me I'm looking behind me
because they can't be talking to me right? That's still something I'm
not comfortable with. I'm I the only one that still feels a little
shell shocked?

be more specific. Grew up around here and North Wilmington most of my
life. Where did you go to high school? What year did you graduate?
Maybe if you come to visit, we could meet up one day.
How cool, we may have been distant neighbors. My hubby and I owned a
home off Harmony Rd. (off Kirkwood) in Harmony Woods. Then he came
back in the Army so now we move around...
I was a grad in 1985 from Concord High.
I also was a traveling manager for Goodwill Ind. for 5+ yrs. and
worked all the DE & DE CO of PA stores. (but that was before the one
on Kirkwood opened)
Was kinda bummed at last visit, wanted to go to The Hop for sweet
potato fries and it was gone, turned into something else.
Not sure when I will get up north again, have family coming here this
week to go to Disney. Maybe this fall before hubby goes back to Iraq.
Would be fun to meet if so.
How about you? Grad? From Where? Anything else :)

I got my date last week, it's July 22, I am greatly looking forward to it. We
do have an nice group here, but I have certainly learned allot from lurking, and
adding a bit now and then. I see the surgeon this week. They have been doing
the surgery here about a year, and have over 80 "graduates" My husband is very
supportive of me having the surgery and quite willing to forgo eating the type
of meals we usually have. Actually, most will probably be fine once I get on
real food, but my amounts will have to be curtailed. He also realizes that if I
can't eat it I wont cook it, so pickins will be slim for a while. I really
haven't told many of my family, only my husband and daughter and some real
friends, they all are excited for me. Like everyone, I've been through
countless diets, and have lost a lot of weight over the years. Of course I
gained it all back, and that is my biggest worry re the sugary. I've approached
it as having to give up food, like I gave up smoking years
ago, and it took quite a few months to decide to do this. The group has been
very instrumental in my decision.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] restroom aid after surgery?????? need help

I doo not think they make any special tongs for this but i have heard of
using regular tongs for the kitchen, like the ones you pick up rolls off a
platter with, the kind with the longer handle and you can grasp the tissue or
wet
wipes and reach to wipe yourself that way. I have also heard of people wrapping
tissue around a wooden cooking spoon and using that. I brought one to the
hospital but did not need it, thank God.

Thank you Lynda for your encouragement. I have been very selfish and

overreacted the other day and I do apologize to everyone. I now
